I finally got around to doing a shirt for those reversible seersucker shorts that I made for my little man. I had done the Applique Cafe Tree Swing applique to match the green side--and here is the Embroidery Boutique whale to match the blue side:

The shorts are actually a pair of Rosalina shorts--my son has a collared shirt with the gingham piping that match these. I thought--why not make him a t-shirt to match, as well. I started to add a name to this one, but decided I liked how simple it looks without one.

A Couple of Gifts...

Here are a few gifts I've done recently:

I got this super cute beach towel at Target. It already had the pirate ship applique at the bottom--I simply added a name to the striped band. We are a pirate family (the mascot at my nieces/nephews school is a pirate--it's also where my husband graduated from--and I also taught there for my first year of teaching--I'm a lion, but now I'm a pirate, too). And pirate stuff has become really popular--so I'm always excited to come across pirate loot!

I got both of these bags from http://www.jiffyshirts.com/. They have many more bags to choose from. I recently made my first purchase from them (I needed some toddler shirts to monogram--and Walmart no longer has the short sleeve shirts). They ship for pretty cheap (cheaper the more you buy)--and I ordered on Saturday and got my stuff on Tuesday--I thought that was pretty good. I thought the pink one would work good for a beach bag for my mom---I monogrammed a beach towel for her in an earlier post. And the second bag was done in Winfield Pirate school colors for my nephew. I love cinch bags. We probably have about 10 of them at our house that we use for various things: these are great to hold a beach towel and sunscreen--let each child be responsible for carrying their own stuff (I am personally having a hard time finding anything large enough to carry all of our pool stuff now that we have a toddler). I also have one that I keep all my softball stuff in that I can just grab and take with me when I'm running out the door to a game (it keeps my cleats and my glove--I just recently pulled it out for this summer season only to find that it was also keeping a pair of socks that I wore in the last game of last summer---yikes!). Jiffy Shirts has these cinch bags in lots of different colors--I went ahead and ordered a few extra since summer is also birthday season for my family.

It's been a while...

It's been a while since my last post...I have not been able to get alot of work done because I've been really sick. Here are some things that I have got a chance to work on in the past month or so:

These are actually the shorts I did back at Easter. They are reversible with green seersucker on one side and blue seersucker on the other side. At Easter--I did the Applique Cafe Easter Truck to match the blue side. I also plan on doing the Embroidery Boutique whale in blue seersucker. Needless to say--we should be able to get alot of wear out of these shorts! I also have a pair of brown gingham pants that I have made that shoule be able to carry this shirt into the fall--I love being practical!

Monogrammed beach towel--it's always such a nice break to be able to simply monogram something--other than to spend alot of time and attention on applique. I have just made an order from http://www.jiffyshirts.com/ for some shirts and I also ordered some bags--one of which to go with this towel. It's the first time that I've ever ordered from them--so I'll let you know how it goes. They have good prices on stuff and great shipping prices.

Embroidery Boutique Octopus paired with a pair of Garanimals shorts. I thought I would do the orange thread to make the applique a little different and to pop a bit more--there is a tiny orange stripe in the shorts. This one is actually for my little guy. I don't like to always put his name on stuff--because I would like to hopefully reuse his stuff if we ever have another little boy. Even if we don't--it will be easier to consign (there's not alot of Jonahs out there). I'm quite frugal--when I do decide to put his name on a shirt--I usually buy it a little larger, so that we can hopefully get a couple of years out of it.

I love Madras fabric! Maybe I can get a pic of Jonah wearing this one to post.

Here is another Garanimals outfit that I've done.

The Walmarts around here have now put out new plaid shorts different from those that were available a couple of months ago--the ones used here can no longer be found. Walmart has also started putting out sleeveless shirts instead of the solid short sleeve shirts. I wish they wouldn't do away with their shirts so early in the season (they stopped selling the long sleeve shirts in December). Luckily I had bought up several shirts to use for my little guy--just hoping I can find some time to work on them.

In other news--Florence is getting a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft! I am so excited--I've never been in one before, but I always like to have more options when it comes to fabric.

It seems like I don't get to sew as much as I used to--so it was nice to get back to my sewing machine to make this ADORABLE outfit! My friend's little boy is turning 1 and he's having a Mod Monkey birthday party. She passed along one of the birthday hats for me to match the colors of the outfit with. I knew that I had seen the monkey face applique design out there somewhere--and I am so glad I found it--it's simply too cute!

The dad absolutely did not want polka dots--so I went with a gingham instead of just a solid color.

This is the first time I've added pockets to a shortall--but I think they make the outfit.

I love applique--I just think there is so much you can do with it. In fact, I don't think I've done a single embroidery design other than applique or names since I've had my machine. For those of you who don't know the difference: 1.) Embroidery just uses thread to create the design 2.) Applique uses fabric to create a design. Each piece of fabric you see in a design is tacked down and very carefully cut around--and then the edges are usually satin stitched over. Some applique designs are very simple--just one fabric piece and one thread color--I love these--they are simple and fairly quick (although I'm sure you'd be surprised at how much time it takes to applique/embroider something). I had hoped to get 3 shirts in during nap time (which is when I try to get my work done)--but this little design took up all of my time. It has lots of fabric pieces and LOTS of thead changes. The finished product is great, but a lot of work went into getting there. Here is the finished product:

I have been wanting to sit down and create a tag to go on my photos. I am surprised at how many people don't think anything about using someone else's photos and posting it on their blog/facebook/etc. without telling where it came from--which makes it look their own work. I follow lots of blogs and look at etsy and other websites often--so alot of times I notice when someone is using someone's pictures--because I can usually track back and find the original one. I know that people put lots of hard work in their creations--and it is dishonest to post someone else's work as your own. If you want to use someone's pictures to show an idea or something you can do--ask permission and give that person credit. I will now get off my soap box.

I had a flashing idea today as I was about to take the above photo--I decided to print out a tag of my logo and tape it to my hanger. It was quick (although I need to print another when I change out my ink cartridge--it was low) and I think it does the trick!

These are some outfits I did today for a friend's little boy who is just about to turn 1. I had told my friend about seeing several different blogs that had used the Garanimals shorts from Walmart to do a coordinating applique on a shirt. It is one of the best ideas I had seen--and you end up with a boutique looking outfit for a fraction of the cost. Here's how it works: get the shorts in the size you need for your child and buy another pair in the same fabric but in the largest size (they are the same price)--then buy a coordinating plain t-shirt. Use the fabric from the largest shorts in your applique for a great looking outfit. I have several more shirts to do for her, but wanted to go ahead and post what I had got done today (during nap time) so she could get a sneak peek.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I have been so busy lately trying to get lots of stuff done--and trying to squeeze a couple of things in here and there for my little guy. I am getting closer to getting caught up, though--and that makes me feel great--even though I have a huge stash of stuff waiting on me that I want to do for my own family. So for now, I'm still not taking any new orders--but I am trying to post most of the things that I am doing.

I recently monogrammed some bags for a friend. She had picked up several things at Mike's Merchandise in Muscle Shoals, AL. I've never been to Mike's, but need to make the trip sometime--because she got some great deals. Mike's gets lots of stuff in, but you just never know what that stuff might be. I, personally, really like to go to places like this--because you never know what you might find. My friend got several bags/backpacks at Mike's for great prices. I did a drawstring bag for her and this L.L. Bean backpack:

She paid less than $4 for this backpack (I just looked and L.L. Bean has this exact backpack for $22.95). The backpack was new--but it did have initials monogrammed on it. I'm guessing they had put the wrong initials on it from an order. I got my seam ripper and took out that monogram (yes, you can do this sometimes--works best with simple monograms and on knits--when you can wash the item afterward, the fabric usually pulls back together--remember this when shopping at consignment sales: you just might get a great buy). You never know on backpack type fabrics how bad the holes are going to be from the previous monogram. Luckily--the monogram came out easily and you could barely tell where it had been--and I simply monogrammed my friend's little boy's initials over it. Love the aqua blue on the green.

I had been hoping to have time to make my Jonah a marker roll for his Easter basket. I have gone completely overboard with buying stuff for his basket--all of the stuff is not going to fit--I know this for sure, because I've already tried! He is getting a couple of potties, too--not sure if he's ready, but thought we'd give it a shot (and we'll at least have them when he is ready)

I did not use a pattern of any sort for this marker roll--I just kind of used my judgement along the way. I got some Color Wonder stuff for his basket since he is wanting to draw/color more and more lately. I'm hoping this will be great for church. It's kind of hard to tell in the pic, but the red fabric has Mickey Mouse heads on it.

So...here it is:

I made it tall enough so that you can fold the top part down before rolling it up--to keep the markers from falling out.

Summer Fun

My sister-in-law contacted me the other night to ask if I would donate something for my niece's Kindergarten class for their Spring Fling. Her class is doing a Summer Fun themed basket. Luckily, I had just purchased lots of cute summer designs--and I had a couple of things in my stash that I could use.

So, this is what I came up with:

When I think of summer fun--I think of the beach!

I had a couple of these towels that I had gotten at the Black Friday sale at WalMart for just $2. These are really nice big, thick towels, too. I had initially planned to just do the octopus with green eyes--and I was wishing I had some big blue polka dot ribbon, but no luck. I did have this small yellow, though--so I changed the eye color to yellow and sewed the ribbon along the bottom.

I sure do wish I had bought lots of these towels---you can't beat the price and the quality is great! I do have one green left--but I'm thinking that I'll be using it to make Jonah a towel just like this.

Time for Time-Outs?

So my little guy is now 21 months old--and he's wanted to do everything by himself from the day he was born. He is very stubborn and independent. Up 'til recently--we've been able to get his attention and let him know when he wasn't supposed to do something--and that was enough. Now Jonah has learned that he has a choice in the matter--he knows when he's not supposed to do something--but he just might like to do it anyway. I just know that all this will power he has is going to be a great assett to him one day in the future--but, for right now, it's just getting him in trouble. I spent a week wondering where my sweet, little baby went--and also wondering why he was trying to break every bone in his body by climbing, jumping, pulling---and ultimately falling on that beautiful face he has. He became a stunt man overnight! And after what was supposed to be a fun day at the park turned into a chase after me because I'm not stopping for anybody--we knew we had to try something. So...welcome to the world of Time-Outs.

I was not sure that Time-Outs would work, because Jonah is still pretty young. I did some research--and it seemed that Jonah was at an appropriate age to try. I felt that it was no coincidence that the day we started Time-Outs I got an e-mail that said, "Is Your Toddler Ready for Time-Outs?"--from one of those sites that I had signed up on to keep my posted on what was going on week by week when he was a baby. Well, so far it has worked. That first day--he probably had about 5 Time-Outs. Fast forward to a week later--and he has only had one since that first day (that one was this morning: he had taken his box of oatmeal and was sitting in the recliner with the whole box poured all over him, the recliner, and the floor--I was only out of the room for a couple of minutes sorting laundry). And he has quickly corrected his behavior with the simple question: Do you want to sit in Time-Out? I'm sure that it won't always be this easy--but, for now it's working.

So...on a whim I grabbed a small rug we had and used it that first day for Time-Outs--and it worked fine: I can move it to room to room with me to keep an eye on him--besides every corner of our house has some kind of toy in it, so a corner was not going to work.

This picture is of the second time-out: he had already gotten the point. Yes, I know--he looks pitiful.

SO---I came up with this idea. I searched high and low for a placemat to monogram to become his time-out mat. I never knew it would be so hard to find a placemat I liked--I found the one below and figured it would do. I simply monogrammed Time-Out on it, but I can also monogram "Jonah's Time-Out Spot"--to make it personalized. And--it can simply be rolled up and put in a bag to take with you (consistency is important--especially when they are first learning). I thought it was a cute idea--

Price would be determined by the price of the placemat--total cost would likely be $10-12

Cute Little Easter Truck

Here is an outfit that I whipped up for Jonah late last night. I'm hoping that it will be nice enough this afternoon for him to wear it Easter Egg Hunting.

I just love seersucker fabric. I knew I wanted to do this outfit in seersucker--I have some other summer shirts that I plan to do to go with the shorts. The shorts are actually reversible--they are green seersucker on the other side. I don't have a serger (maybe someday)--but I still want the clothes that I make to look finished--so I almost always fully line them or make them reversible so that they look nice---and they are really practical when reversible. I did not use a pattern for the shorts (I do have a shorts pattern). I recently got a pair of shorts for Jonah and liked the way they fit--so I used them for the pattern.

A side note on the shirt: I always plan out every fabric when sewing for others--but I decided to do this shirt late last night after I got in--so I had to use what I had (fabrics/threads). I still think it came out really cute. I almost always use Heat 'N Bond Lite on all my appliques, too. However, I had accidentally mixed my Lite with my Heavy bond--which you can't sew on: so I did not use any Heat 'N Bond on this project. SO---if you have not tried applique w/ Heat 'N Bond---you just have to! It just makes everything go so much smoother and look nicer, too! It makes it so much easier to cut around your fabric without it fraying. I could not cut too close to the fabric on this project because it was fraying--and I had lots of fabric threads to cut after the project was finished. And to make a long story short--I just couldn't stop thinking about my Heat 'N Bond Lite the whole time I was doing this project! It adds a little more time to a project (and really it's just a tiny amount of time) and it adds a little more money, too--but it's not expensive, either--BUT it makes all the difference!

One of Jonah's good friends, Parker, is turning 3! I promised his mom that I would make him a birthday shirt--we worked together on ideas--and this is what we came up with:

Instead of buying a mouse w/birthday hat design (I've seen one on Etsy)--I merged two designs that I already had to create the front of the shirt. The back of the shirt is done in 2 seperate hoopings. This shirt was alot of work! It is pretty much 4 different projects on one shirt. In order to do a shirt like this--I would need to charge $30 (for front and back designs) to cover cost and time.

Lucky for Parker's mom---this is his birthday present from Jonah :)

I can also merge other designs if you see something you like. For example: I can do an applique birthday number on the front of a shirt w/something that goes with your theme (monkey, sports, princess, etc.).

Blog Traffic = Upcoming Giveaway

Well, blog traffic has definitely picked up. I started out in December with just a few hits each week--and today alone I've had about 20 hits--which means the blog has reached 1,000 (1, 019 at last count) hits! I will be posting info in the next couple of weeks on how you can be chosen to win something free from my blog--

I have lots of sewing and embroidering to do in the next couple of weeks--I hope to caught up soon so that I can make my son some cute summer outfits. I've always heard that people with embroidery machines almost never get to do something personalized for themselves or their family--I believe it now!

I found this adorable airplane fabric the other day--and I just couldn't pass it up! I hope to make Jonah a shortall out of it. This fabric would also be adorable for a boy burp cloth or bib. You have to grab up cute boy fabric when you find it--because you are lucky if you find any at all!

I also made these shirts for a friend for the Disney Live! Mickey Mouse Rockin' Road Show that is coming to Huntsville this weekend. They just had a new baby--so the grandparents are taking the new big brother to the show for his birthday. The design is on the left chest pocket area instead of the middle.

Last Minute Lucky Charm

I had bought some cute St. Patrick's Day fabric a few weeks back--just enough to do an applique--but never got around to doing anything with it. I decided at the very last minute to do Jonah a shirt for him to wear for church (couldn't have anyone pinching him!). I had a plain white shirt that I had planned to put it on, but I had left it in his room and he was napping--so I improvised. I had bought a 4 pack of brand new onesies (the nice Carter's ones) for like $5 at one of the recent consignment sales in his size. I had these in my sewing cabinet. It's been a long time since he's worn a onesie--you could tell because he was in a panic when he couldn't get to his bellybutton--which is his comfort thing that he does--he likes to stick his finger in it. He kept pulling at the onesie trying to get to his bellybutton!

I used the Planet Applique shamrock alphabet applique design--and I left the letter out. I think it turned out great. I love how it added the extra stitching on top of the satin stitch in a different color.

I consider myself extremely lucky and blessed to get to be his Mommy :)

We ate supper at the Wednesday night meal before services so Jonah got to run around in the MPB--and he got to run and play after services. Now I have a child who just does not go to sleep unless he is in his own bed. There are the extremely rare times that he falls asleep in the car--and tonight was one of those. He didn't even wake up when I took him inside and put him on his changing table to get him ready for bed. He played hard--and he was TIRED!

Spotted Dogs and a New Big Brother

I have a really good friend who will be welcoming her second little boy into the world in the morning. I had promised her that I would do Big Brother/Baby Brother shirts for her as a gift. She requested that I put a "spotted dog" on the shirts because her almost 4 year old has recently fallen in love with them--so that's what I did. Because you can mostly only get onesies in white and I wanted them to match, I thought the shirts needed a punch of color--and what goes better with a spotted dog than red?

Also--anybody out there ever have an embroidery project that you just think is never gonna happen? Well, this was one of them. I bought a shirt that shrank and had to be replaced--only for that shirt to be eaten by my machine (after an hour of working on it and my machine, I was able to salvage it--only for it to be eaten again)--which meant I had to buy yet another shirt. I had problems with this one, too--but was able to eventually figure out the problem and make it work. I also went through 2 onesies--and continued to have problems when working on it. But, finally, I had a finished project. Somedays--my machine just does not want to be my friend :)

An Official Fan of Disneyworld

This blog post is going to have little to do with monogramming or sewing--and much to do about my recent trip to Disneyworld. I figure people are always looking for information on Disney--and I found it helpful when planning our trip, to talk with people that had been. Plus--2 families can go and have 2 completely different experiences. So here we go...

I can now call myself an official fan of Disneyworld. I spent 27 years of my life without ever stepping foot on that magical soil in Orlando, FL--I even stated on the way down: "Why would someone drive 12 hours to go to Disneyworld, when you can drive just 6 hours and go to the beach?" I am a great fan of the beach--it's my favorite vacation--I like to vacation and not have to do anything. Having said that--I think this trip to Disney can go down as my favorite vacation ever. It was great sharing the first time experience with my little guy who turned 20 months old while we were there (If you are a first timer, don't forget to stop at City Hall on your way in to Magic Kingdom to get your First Visit button). My husbands parents were able to go, as well--which made it an all around great trip. Plus--Jonah was free since he was under 3. He will not remember this trip, but we will never forget the faces he made this trip. It was magical!

We ended up driving a day early and splitting our travel time in order to avoid the snow that was forecasted all the way down to Dothan, AL. Splitting travel time worked out so well that we ended up doing the same on the way back. Jonah did great traveling--which always makes for a great trip. We were only able to do 2 days of parks due to this trip revolving around my husband's work conference. So we chose to do Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. The next two days were spent hanging out at the resort (which was well worth it) and at Downtown Disney. My husband was working these days, so it was just me, Jonah, and the grandparents.

Here is some information that I have found helpful:
http://www.allears.net/ You can find tons of information here. I mainly looked at dining info. You can find restaurants by location and even look at menus and pricing. You can also look at the character dining to see which characters to expect at which meals.
http://www.mousesavers.com/ You can sign up for e-mail updates and monthly newsletter with special events and money saving tips--we were able to get our resort at a great discount thanks to the info on this site
--Stay onsite--it is well worth it. Bus transportation was great--we never had to wait very long for the bus we needed. We stayed at Carribean Beach Resort (a Moderate Resort) and we were very pleased.
--Photopass: Disney has people throughout the parks that will take your picture at key locations and at character meetings and put them all on one card for you to purchase after your trip. Have them take lots of picures and when you get home add Disney borders, etc. The photo cd is supposed to be the best value--because these pictures are then yours to do as you please--but it is still pricey at $150. I have been looking for discounts--and apparently you are able to pre-purchase before your trip and get it for $100. If you are going with several family members--you can split the cost of the cd.
--I did not do this, but I saw that you can check out from your public library books on planning for disney trips.
--If you are planning on doing a character meal, you need to do book it ASAP--these fill up early. You can book these online at the disney website.
--Pick up your park maps and daily schedule as you enter the parks. The daily schedule will have showtimes for shows and parade times. I would highly recommend taking the time to see the parades and the shows.

We started our day early and got to the park just before it opened. Someone had recommended that we see the park open--which was great. Jonah clapped all the way through the opening of the park--and for another 20 minutes after we were in the park. It felt like we did not accomplish very much this day. Of course, it is difficult to accomplish a whole lot at Disney with a 1 year old--but I think that next time I would like to create a list of things that we would like to do in the park. The first stop was the Dumbo ride for Jonah and Daddy (Mommy doesn't ride anything that goes around in circles). We also did the train ride and later that night did "It's a Small World". These were the only rides we did all day--although we did ride the monorail "just for fun". We spent alot of time in line to meet characters--which ended up being more than worth it since the characters were surprisingly Jonah's favorite part. He did not even like Santa this year, so I wasn't counting on him liking the characters. We waited in line for about 45 minutes to meet Mickey and Minnie with Jonah fussing the whole time because he was hungry and tired. He cried even harder once the line moved into the room where they were, but once it was our turn, I sat him down and he quit crying and ran right into Mickey's arms. It was priceless...

This is my favorite memory of the whole trip--I'm so glad that he loved the characters. He would cry everytime he saw one--but just because he had to wait to meet them. Now Jonah did not even know who most of the characters were. We had started letting him watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse before the trip--so maybe he would know who Mickey was (Jonah is an absolute Sesame Street fan--if something else is on, he usually asks for Elmo).

This was another favorite memory. Jonah was so tired when meeting Pooh that he hugged him for like 2 minutes straight without moving at all. He must have felt very cozy.

We grabbed a bite for lunch at Pinnochio Village Haus. For around $7 you can get pizza, a chicken basket or salad--which is probably as cheap you are going to find a meal in the parks. We did not do the meal plan--and we really did not spend alot of money on food in the parks. A good tip is to order a kid's meal for yourself--I did this several times--and got the same amount, or occasionally even more food, than the adult meals. We ate several times in the food court area of our resort--and it wasn't too expensive. I will say that we did the refillable cups for $14--and probably did not get our money's worth since these can only be refilled at the food court areas.

We went back that afternoon to allow Jonah to take a nap--then headed back to the park for the evening. I was so looking forward to sunny Florida weather and flip flops, but there was a cold front when we were there. This night was the coldest--and it was very cold! We fit a few things in before settling in to watch the fireworks. I learned quickly that you spend more time waiting at Disneyworld than you do anything else. The fireworks show was great--we then grabbed a quick bite at Casey's Corner before trying to find a spot to wait for the Spectromagic parade. Mainstreet was very crowded, but we kept heading toward the entrance/exit because we had decided that it was much too cold to spend anymore time in the park after the parade. Fortunately, there were many spots available in the front of the park--and we were able to exit quickly after the parade passed by us.

ANIMAL KINGDOM:

We almost did not go to Animal Kingdom because we had been told by many people that they did not spend much time there or they just weren't that impressed. I LOVED ANIMAL KINGDOM! This was my absolute favorite day and I could have spent several days here. This is the newest park--so it is laid out so well. The park is just as busy, but I felt like we were able to accomplish so much more because of the layout. We started our day at the Tusker House before the park opened for Donald's Safari Breakfast. The meal was great (but pricey--as are all character meals). I was a little dissapointed that the characters did not spend very much time at each table--but I did like that we saw most of the characters there, so there was no need to wait in lines to meet them throughout the day. Although--if you are doing the character thing at Animal Kingdom, they have a great layout for it.

After our breakfat, we headed for Kilamanjaro Safaris. This was my personal favorite of the whole trip. It's an open air safari ride where you will see animals roaming through 100 acres of savannah. You never know what animals you will see--and I would recommend going more than once, because you will likely see different animals at different times of day. This ride lasted for about 20 minutes. I could have rode all day long. We did one of the walking treks after this--definitely check out the gorillas. There are about 5 or 6 of them in one area. We also took the train ride to Rafiki's Planet Watch. This area seemed unfinished. They do have a petting zoo area there that is not too impressive.

We did several shows at Animal Kingdom:

--Finding Nemo: The Musical--which was great. You have to start getting in line for the shows about 45 minutes before showtime. Luckily you are not standing in line the whole time, because they do seat you when they can. We made the mistake of getting food to eat while in line (2 great big ole turkey legs) which had to be taken back to our stroller and hidden because the line starting moving inside and you couldn't take food in. I was starving, but was more worried about wild animals raiding my stroller while we were inside. Jonah couldn't take his eyes off of any of the shows. I was so impressed that he didn't mind to sit still for such long periods of time. I would highly recommend this show.

--It's Tought to Be a Bug 3D-- I think they run different shows, so you may not see the same one. The line winds down underneath the Tree of Life--I did not like this at all. Once you get to the doors, you are underneath the tree and it is dark and crowded. We had to wait for about 10 minutes until the doors opened. There are no real lines once you get to the doors--so that crowd kind of pushes you through to the auditorium. This show is short. You wear your 3D glasses and are taken into a bug's life. There are some moments that may frighten small children. It gets dark, smokey, and loud--but only for a few moments. Jonah did fine through it.

--The Festival of the Lion King--This was a good show, too. We headed to it quickly after watching The Jammin' Jungle Parade (Have your kids sit on the ground along the tape--and some of the characters come by and shake hands). I will admit that this show wasn't quite what I expected. If you can get a seat in the front rows, there is a chance that you or your children might get to help out in the show. This show had lots of singing and some acrobatics.

CARRIBEAN BEACH RESORT:

My husband's conference started on the third day of our trip. We took this time to explore our resort. If you are looking to save some money on your disney trip, you can easily spend a day at your resort. Ours was set up as Carribean Islands, with lots of white beaches with hammocks (they offer boat and bicycle rentals), playground areas, and several pools. Even though the weather was cold, you could have easily swam in their heated outdoor pools. I was so glad that we took this day to recover from our 2 days of madness at the parks.

DOWNTOWN DISNEY:

You can also easily spend a day at Downtown Disney. If you stay at a DW Resort, the transportation buses will take you here, as well. There is lots of shopping and even more amusement options. Don't expect to get any deals on souveniers, though. I did have someone tell me that the best place to get souveniers is at the Target close to Disneyworld. We shopped for a bit and took in some music performed by an orchestra just outside the Disneystore (my little guy loves music). There are lots of food options at Downtown Disney. If you go into the Ghiradelli chocolate store--find the lady with the basket to get your free chocolate square (the soda fountain side smells delicious). I got a pretzel from Wetzels Pretzels that was really good and then we did lunch at Rainforest Cafe. This was my first dining experience here--and it doesn't really live up to the hype. Jonah did enjoy it and I can't help but post a pic of his shocked face when a thunderstorm came through (in case you don't know, periodically the animals come to life and an occasional thunderstorm passes through).:

To sum it all up---we had a great time. I would highly recommend taking a little one--or anyone at all. I can't wait to go back and explore even more. If you are planning a trip--ask other people what they did and look for info online. The whole process can be very overwhelming--there is tons of information. We did not plan alot--our plan was to go and have a good time. I don't think I would overplan (save room for some surprises)--but I do think I would make a loose plan for our next trip.

Fabric Selections

I haven't posted anything about the fabric selections I have available, so I thought I would let you know where I typically get my fabrics. It may be that if you see something that I've used that you are interested in that I may have some left--but, in most cases, I have anything you see on the blog or might want (just ask--I love looking for fabric) readily available at the stores in my area. I can also order fabric online if needed. If you already have fabric that you would like for me to use in a project--I can do that, as well.

I've used some of their stuff in clothing and bags--they have some great coordinating polka dots, checks, paisleys that work great for children's items. If you are ever passing through Winfield and love fabric, you have to check them out. You just might spend 1/2 a day there.

New Designs and More to Come...

Just got some new embroidery designs today that I couldn't resist passing up. Planet Applique (http://www.planetapplique.com/) seems to always have the best sales and specials--I got an e-mail from them today--and couldn't resist getting in on the deals (I hardly had to spend any money to get all of these--I had lots of free points to use, too). Since I've only had my machine since last fall--I am having to work to add to my embroidery design collection (I don't mind at all--I love getting them--it's the purchasing them that sometimes hurts--some can be expensive--and they all add up). So, with every season or holiday that rolls around, I'm trying to add some designs. Remember--I have many more designs than I put on this site and we can likely always find what you might be looking for--just send me an e-mail. I also have in the plans to get some more summer designs real soon.

So here's what I got today:

Both the Easter Egg and the Shamrock come as a complete alphabet.

I can also remove the letter from them and do just the egg or shamrock--or put a name on the inside.

Would look cute as they are with the letter and then a monogrammed name underneath.

I have only seen reverse applique a couple of times and have never tried it myself, but I'm very excited to give it a shot now that Planet Applique has come out with a whole set (they say that there are more sets to come). The set I bought comes with 4 different designs and in 4 different sizes (there is even a small 2 inch size which should come in super handy when doing those tiny baby items). The designs include: star, dog, elephant, and heart. So, you might be asking--What exactly is reverse applique? The fabric is actually attached to the back of the onesie/shirt when embroidering--when the machine finishes--you cut the onesie fabric to reveal the image in the fabric underneath. Pretty neat, huh?

Shortalls/Longalls

Here are some pics of some of the shortalls/longalls that I have made. They are fully lined in a coordinating fabric or can even be done reversible with an applique/monogram on each side. Many of these do not have any monogramming on them (or may have monograms done by other people), because I did not have my embroidery machine when I first started sewing for my little guy. I do not put snaps in the crotch of these. It just adds more time and money, so I've never bothered. I don't have a problem with just slipping it off for diaper changes. The current pattern that I use--includes sizes 1-4--and can be done as a shortall or longall. I can make slight adjustments as needed to make a better fit. I'm going to be on the lookout for another pattern to make sizes newborn to 12 months. If anyone knows of a good one--send me an e-mail. I also tend to make the straps that come across the top a little longer so that the buttons can be moved and it can be worn longer. I also prefer to sew the buttons on with embroidery floss for little ones--which makes it highly unlikely that the button will come loose.

Baby Shower

We had a wonderful baby shower brunch this morning for a GREAT friend from church. The theme was green and brown--which coordinated with the colors of her baby's bedding. Everything turned out wonderful. My friend Becki and I said that we need to go into business together planning/throwing parties/showers--we had alot of fun putting everything together. But, seriously, if you ever need help with ideas/planning--we'll do it--for a price :)

Disneyworld...Here we come!

We have a trip planned for Disneyworld--and I've made several items for the family for our trip.
As I mentioned before, this will be my first trip--so I'm very excited!

Jonah's outfit for Animal Kingdom--I knew that I wanted to do animal print, but was afraid I wasn't going to be able to find anything that didn't look too girly. This tiger print turned out too cute!

Jonah's Mickey Outfit--I still need to sew the buttons on. I did this using my trusty longall pattern--and just altered it so I could do the two fabrics. This is the first time that I had tried this--and the red should've come up some more to look more like Mickey's--but, overall, it turned out pretty good.

I got this grey hoodie from Target a couple of weeks ago in their Bargain corner for $6. I noticed today that they now have them marked down to $4. They still had a bunch of kids sizes and colors left. I knew that Jonah would likely need a sleeve for part of the day (after checking the weather--looks like all day)--so I thought this would do the trick.

Stroller Bag with Coordinating Changing Pad

This is something I made a while back--and I'm just now getting around to putting it on here. I actually have many items that I have done in the past that I'll try to eventually post pictures of. This is a stroller bag with a changing pad. The stroller bag attaches to your stroller handles. It is very handy to store extra stuff--or to use for the basics instead of a whole diaper bag on outings such as the zoo. I keep the changing pad that I also made in mine, as well as some wipes and a couple of extra diapers. The changing pad can be made to match exactly--or can be done in a coordinating fabric. It is made with a layer of felt in the middle to make a softer place to put baby on during diaper changes.

I made the bag before I had my machine and had someone monogram it for me.

DIY DISH

I have people ask me all the time how I've learned to do some of the crafty stuff I do or where I got an idea for something. Well, sometimes I do have original ideas, but for the most part, I look for great ideas online. Their is a wealth of information out there for newbies looking to learn a new skill or find something creative to do. There are many places online that allow you to read about how to do something new--and if you're lucky--they show pictures, too. I learn best by watching a new skill be done right in front of me. That's why I'm excited about DIY DISH. They are starting a new series of videos where they discuss some of the latest and greatest DIY projects in sewing, crafting, scrapbooking, home decor, kid projects, machine embroidery, hand embroidery, and more!

Zebra Print for a Cutie Pie

Here are some pics of some stuff I've done recently for a "very special person".

My sweet little niece, Kylie, is quite the stylish little girl. My sister wanted me to do something for her that she can use for Valentine's Day and carry her over into Kindergarten, as well.

This design was a perfect choice because Kylie is going to be a pirate next year!

I was also told that Kylie recently insisted on the purchase of some zebra print shoes--so both of these items will match perfectly.

This dress was a great find @ Goodman's Sporting Goods in Florence. Their winter items were 1/2 off. It will look great by itself or with a pair of leggings.

This item was also a great find--just $6 on clearance at Belk.

I love a hoodie to just throw on when it's cool or to wear with an outfit.

Simple Goldfish Design

I now have a new design to offer thanks to Planet Applique. Not only does Planet Applique have frequent sales and offers--they also throw in a free design from time to time. This design is a simple goldfish applique (looks just like the goldfish crackers my little guy loves to eat). It comes with both satin and zigzag stitching. Note: many of the designs that I have on the right have different stich options--always ask if you would like something different--and I just might be able to do it.

Airplane Baby Set

This is a baby set that I just did. I just love red and blue together for a boy--and the little airplane is too cute. This set included a baby onesie, Rabbit Skins bib, burp cloth, and a bag tag.

I can get the bib lined in a few different colors if you are interested in a different color. I can also do lots of different things with burp cloths (add ribbon or coordinating fabric at the bottom). The bag tags are something new that I'm doing. These are really cute to attach to a diaper bag or backpack. I can design something for teens and adults as a luggage or gym bag tag, as well. I can do these in any colors or theme.

I just purchased a new Valentine's Day design from Planet Applique--I just love this one because it is so hard to find Valentine's designs for little boys--although this one would still work with a girl. As always, this design can be done in any color. Here is the design:

I have to say that I'm totally addicted to finding and purchasing embroidery designs. I probably look daily to see if any of my favorite digitizers have added anything new. It's a great time of year, too--there are lots of holiday (Valentine's, Easter) designs coming out--and Spring and Summer will be here before you know it.

I had a small crisis--my laptop died a couple of weeks ago. I've not been able to work on anything at all--and was worried that I was not going to be able to retrieve all of my designs. Thankfully, everything was retrievable--and I now have a replacement laptop. So, I have lots to do. I would like to work on my little guy some stuff for Valentine's Day. I have several baby gifts that I've got to get to work on.

AND...I'm going to Disney World! I've been so excited--Jonah's first trip to Disney and my first trip to Disney will be experienced together. I have found a great website that has just about any kind of design you can think of:

Gifts for two special girls...

I had been wanting to try to make these huggable "dolls" for my two nieces for quite some time--and finally got around to it for Christmas gifts. My brother-in-law, Les, is in Iraq for his second tour of duty. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for his wife and his girls to not have him at home with them.

These "dolls" are made with a picture of their daddy.

Can also be done with anyone's picture--makes a great rest buddy for preschool.

I did the backside in pink camo for the girls--can be done in regular camo or any kind of print.

The backside also has a pocket with a monogram--the pocket would be a great place to hold a photo or letter. The monogram can say anything you like.

Appliqued Hand Towels

I love how these hand towels turned out. They are done on a waffle weave kitchen towel and would make a great gift for someone or yourself. As always, I can customize the colors to match your kitchen. I just love how the green and brown look together.

Monogrammed Towels

Monogrammed towels make great gifts. They can be more formal for a wedding or house warming gift--or they can be cute for a child's gift. Prices vary on towels---based on style and quality of towel you want and style of monogram. I am always willing to look for an item for you if you want a particular color/style. The brown towels and the pink towels were bought at the big after Thanksgiving sale at Walmart. I'll have to check for pricing on these now since they are no longer on sale.

Versatile Embroidery Design

I continue to be amazed at some of the things that can be done with machine embroidery. Almost any embroidery design can be altered in appearance by changing thread colors, etc. This particular design is especially versatile. I did this design on a pair of matching pillowcases for my nieces to match their bedroom.

The design can be done as is--or I can eliminate any part of it: the outer swirl, the inner circle, or even the letter or letter outline. I think it would look really good with just the outer swirl and the letter--just a simple design. This particular design can also be done with applique.

And with applique---fabric choices are unlimited! This would look great with a single letter monogram or even with an appliqued letter--such as the babybet on the right in designs.

SO....if you ever see something you like, but want different colors or wonder if it can be done differently--just message me and we'll see what we can come up with!

How cute are these mittens? They are an Applique Cafe design. For those fellow embroidery people--I have followed this lady's blog for a while now (even before I had an embroidery machine) and she has just recently started digitizing her own designs (http://www.appliquecafe.com/). They are just adorable--and I like that she keeps things simple. I plan to make an outfit for my little guy using this applique on a shirt and making some matching corduroy pants. This would also look adorable in pink corduroy for a little girl. I'll post some pics once I make the outfit. First I've got to conquer the pile of items that I've got to do for Christmas gifts. So much to do...so little time!

Okay...so the little guy is getting a kitchen for Christmas--so he's getting lots of things to go with it. I couldn't resist doing a little apron for him. As you can see--he's already been wearing it around. This is just a simple apron (there are more colors available) and is available in child or adult sizes. This would be great for your little kitchen helper or for a teacher to use in a center (with the classroom theme, of course)--as well as a gift for Grandma in an adult size. I can even do matching Mommy & Me aprons. I tried to get a good pic so you can get an idea of the child size, but Jonah is always on the go--action pictures are the only ones I'm taking these days. Jonah is still a little guy, so I had to make a knot in the top part in order for it to fit him better.

Lots of Pillowcases

Here is just a sampling of pillowcases that I have done. As you can see, the possibilities are endless. You can pick an applique that you simply like or match it to your child's room decor--you can do a name by itself (monogrammed or appliqued--limit 5 letters applique)--and don't forget those favorite sports teams! Pillowcases are also a great wedding gift (with newlyweds initials, his/hers, or Mr. ...... or Mrs. ....--done in neutrals or tone on tone).

I did these stockings for a friend--her grandparents have never had Christmas stockings. She decided to do these for a gift and have family members bring items to put in their stocking for Christmas--what a wonderful idea!

Small Baby Bag

I can monogram or applique one of these adorable small baby bags for just $12. Makes a great baby gift. The bag is available in light pink or light blue. The top layer of the bag is actually white--but is made to make the under color peak through. There is also a small zipper compartment in the bag. This little bag makes a great "quick" diaper bag to hold those necessity items--or a great church bag for an older child.

Here are 2 different examples of stockings that I have done. Both stockings are done in decorator houndstooth fabric with a regular toe. I can also do a whimsical curled toe. I will gladly search for fabric to match your preferred color scheme. Decorator fabrics work best, as they help the stocking hold its shape. All stockings are fully lined.

Custom Memory Board

These custom memory boards are a perfect way to remember special days (baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries). They are a great way to have a record of who was a part of that special day or to have a keepsake of messages for the new parent or birthday boy or girl. I have personally done these for my own baby shower (with a sonogram picture of my little guy and his name) and also his first birthday (with a custom picture and birthday message: "Rubber Ducky, You're the ONE, to Make Jonah's 1st Birthday So Much Fun"). They are a wonderful keepsake. I can customize this with a picture and borders done in colors to match your theme--and can even come up with a special saying to go with your theme. You simply e-mail me the picture you would like to use--with any special directions (colors, themes, ribbon color, etc.)--and I'll create something special just for you! I will gladly work with you--I'll e-mail you what I come up with--and once I have your approval, I will create your custom memory board. You can buy special pens to use on these, or I have just used a fine-tip sharpie.

There are so many designs available out there to put on just about anything. I am putting pictures on the side of my blog showing you designs that I have purchased and have readily available. This is just a sampling of designs that I have and I can also find a design if you need something particular for that special project. Many of these pictures are directly from the site they were purchased from (see favorite embroidery sites) so it is likely that I won't be able to match fabrics. I can work with you to pick out fabric colors and add names, etc. to make your purchase as custom as possible. Designs can be put on just about anything: hand towels, shirts, burp cloths, bibs, pillowcases, baby blankets--and I could go on forever. Welcome to my little boutique--I'm so glad you stopped by. I have been creating items for some time now, mostly for my sweet little man and for gifts--and am now offering my items to others.
